Emotional Preparation For Hiring A Nanny

A nanny is expected to follow the same standards and procedures you have put in place, often with her input for the daily challenges of a busy household.  It really comes down to using common sense and good judgement to handle daily problems, issues and challenges that come with a busy household.  As parents you must learn to hand over control of your children whilst you are away from the home.  The nanny must have the power to make decision regarding your children should the need arise.  Many nannies do not feel valued by parents and this lack of respect can bring all sorts of problems in the household.  Remember once you have hired a nanny you have entrusted your children into their care when you are not at home – this is a responsibility that nannies should take onboard and keep telephone calls to the parents to a minimum.

All households should strive for open communication.  When you hire a nanny you have extended your family by one more.  It is most important that the nanny feels like she is part of the family for her to fully engage with you or your children.  You have extended the parenting team and you all need to be on the same page when it comes to parenting the children.
